Our 15th Anniversary Celebration!

Back in 1992, Simple Gifts played the very first Acoustic Brew show. What better choice could there be to celebrate fifteen wonderful years of incredible folk music than Simple Gifts… three women playing twelve instruments, performing Romanian, Klezmer, Greek, Irish, Scottish, Appalachian, and more!

Simple Gifts is donating their performance and all ticket sales benefit the Acoustic Brew.

Rory Block has committed her life and her career to preserving the Delta blues tradition and bringing it to life for 21st century audiences around the world. Heralded as "a national treasure" (Guitar Extra), and "one of the greatest living acoustic blues artists" (Blues Revue), Rory is a traditionalist and an innovator at the same time, wielding a fiery and haunting guitar and vocal style that has netted her multiple W.C. Handy awards. The New York Times declared: "Her playing is perfect, her singing otherworldly as she wrestles with ghosts, shadows and legends."

Richard Sleigh has been exploring the harmonica from the inside out for over 30 years. He has performed with Taj Mahal, Maria Muldaur, Bo Diddley, Susan Werner, and many others.

Quirky, intriguing, yet inviting, The Dust Poets are a five-piece acoustic folk-pop group with roots deep in the Canadian prairie. Described as "restlessly traditional," the band has performed extensively across Canada and is known for their infectious spirit, powerful stage presence, genre bending originals, hot instrumental chops, and juicy harmony singing, on material ranging from darkly humourous to achingly tender.

Red Molly was formed during a late-night jam session at the 2004 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. Laurie MacAllister, Abbie Gardner and Carolann Solebello were drawn together by their love of traditional American music, bluegrass, and the old-timey songs of contemporary artists like Gillian Welch and Alison Krauss. Multi-instrumentalists with tight three-part harmony, Red Molly opened for David Wilcox this past fall and we're proud to bring them back for a full evening of their blend of Americana folk

Among recent honors, Balkey was named a Kerrville New Folk Winner in 2005 and was selected for a Top-12 DIY feature in the January 2006 issue of Performing Songwriter magazine. An engaging mix of honesty, intimacy and humor. An agile voice accompanied by sparse and deliberate guitar work. Dirty Linen Magazine says, "Balkey's confident delivery and sparse arrangements frame the songs with uncommon poise."

Called "a garrulous comic observer of contemporary manners" by The New York Times, Christine Lavin has been performing her award-winning, ever changing, one-woman show all over the world for the past 16 years. Her concerts have evolved into an entertainment extravaganza incorporating theatre, stand-up, social commentary, and her famous glow-in-the-dark-baton-twirling finale. Christine has performed on Good Morning America, CNN, NBC, and CBS and in concerts, festivals and venues throughout the world.

Knitters - bring your yarn, needles and favorite project and join Christine at 6:00 in the South Building lobby for a knitting circle!

By age sixteen, Bingman was already playing the singer-songwriter circuits of central Pennsylvania and delivering her own brand of folk to the audiences of coffee shops, bars, and punk shows. One of those gigs was the Local Showcase at the Acoustic Brew and we're glad to welcome Hannah back for a full set all her own..

Kendra Ward and Bob Bence have earned a reputation as one of the most entertaining and accomplished traditional music duos in the nation. Performing on dulcimer (both kinds!), guitar and vocals, they have appeared on stage with The Statler Brothers, Bill Monroe, Allison Kraus, John Hartford, David Holt, and a host of other top artists. They have toured the United States, England, Scotland and Wales and are also noted as gifted instructors of and proponents for, old-time music.

Folks Learnin' Folk Workshops Kendra & Bob will be offering a dulcimer workshop.
